BAD FILM FEST SCREENS THE BADDEST ANIMATED, COMEDY, DOCUMENTARY and ETC. SHORT FILMS
Brooklyn’s most eclectic film festival runs Friday – Sunday, April 26, 27, 28, 2019 at Cloud City

New York, NY – The 7th annual Bad Film Fest takes place at Cloud City, 85 N 1st St (between Berry and Wythe Avenues), Brooklyn, New York – 7pm and 9pm on Friday, Saturday and 7pm on Sunday, April 26, 27, 28 . Different short films will be screened each night. Tickets are $8 and available at BadFilmFest.com.

The festival received over 200 submissions from across the United States and nearly 30 countries. Of the 84 short films selected (averaging five minutes in length) many come from NYC and beyond, as well as Russia, Iran, South Korea, China, India, Poland, France, Italy, Canada and Germany. Genres range from animated projects to documentaries, horror films, horror spoofs, campy sci-fi serials, fake trailers, over-the-top comedies and heartfelt dramas.

“We specialize in low-budget to no-budget projects,” shares co-founder Shawn Wickens. “The goal of our festival is to celebrate these accomplishments because it’s simply a struggle to get anything from idea to screen. Why a ‘Bad’ Film Fest?” he continues, “In the world we’re leaving in – politicians lie through their smiles, reality shows are actually scripted, and many organic, so-called ‘green’ products aren’t organic at all. Everything that presents itself as ‘good’ on the surface is pretty tainted. Bad Film Fest presents itself as ‘bad’ to then hopefully come off as a nice, positive surprise. Bad Film Fest is deceptive, but in the opposite direction.”

Selected highlights of Bad Film Fest 2019 include:

Black Ariel (Stephen Earley Jordan II, director)
Filmed post-hurricane Maria in Loiza, Puerto Rico, “Black Ariel” is a symbolic tribute to the restoration of the island and its people. Filled with historic imagery of race, gender, and religion, this short film empowers as a modern mermaid comes from the sea.
Screening Friday, April 26 – 7pm

Here Comes the Maniac (Armin Monibi, director)
A micro-short from Iran – You might survive a dystopian atomic wasteland, but it just means you’ll now have to deal with that wasteland’s Maniac.
Screening Friday, April 26 – 9pm

Ancestry DNA Spoof (Kimberly Bollard, director)
A young woman takes an Ancestry DNA test and finds out she isn’t Italian, but in fact, 100% not what anyone expected!
Screening Saturday, April 27 – 7pm

Mutual Measurement (Xiaoqing Zhu, director)
This majestic montage explores how one lonely person fits in the urban landscape of Chicago.
Screening Saturday, April 27 – 9pm

Shahkboy (Jake Peckar, director)
This bad boy shark is from Boston, hence the spelling – Shahk!
Screening Sunday, April 28 – 7pm

“Our goal really is to enjoy all of these films with the audience. We always want them to walk away astounded at seeing something they never expected. That’s the magic of cinema and all art,” says co-founder Starr Kendall. “The advantage of being a ‘bad’ film festival is that we are not beholden to any finite genre, topic or style. We can say, ‘Yes’ to anything we suspect may surprise or move the audience.” Past participant and audience member Christine Marie of Chicago agrees. “The talent is unquestionable, the outlet is unique and necessary.”

Tickets are available now online and also at the door each night of the event. All tickets are general seating but free popcorn will be available (while supplies last).

Created in 2012, Bad Theater Fest and Bad Film Fest are committed to creating unique performance opportunities for artists in New York City and beyond. At the conclusion of Bad Film Fest, the organization will take submissions for the next Bad Theater Fest to will take place in New York City this autumn.
